Swedish julkalendern - naming questions

ArvidBaa wrote 4 years ago: 2

Hi!

I just added the two latest season of the Swedish show "julkalendern" https://www.tvmaze.com/shows/23957/julkalendern and just before I was about to start clean up the older seasons, I got really unsure if I did it right with the naming of the episodes.

What I did was that I got inspired from a few earlier seasons, where the episode names included the season title followed by the episode number, since each season has unique names. Only after adding the two latest seasons, I realised that a season itself could be named. Then it seems very redundant to also have the season title in the episode name.

So, right now I am leaning towards going back and removing the season title from the episode names and simply use the standard naming for unnamed episodes (i.e., using the Swedish translation of "Episode": "Avsnitt", followed by the episode number).

I just wanted to ask for clarification so that I really know I am getting it right. I really don't want to get it wrong and have to go back again afterwards and clean up my own clean-up attempt.

You are correct, you can use the season names for the season and the episodes should just have the episode title, no number and no season name. :)

Ok, finished. All seasons are added with correct season names, and correct episode names (either specific (if existing) or generic). However, I have now another topic that I really need to clarify.

The nature of this show "Julkalendern" is that it is recurring each year in December (some of the early seasons started already by late November) as a "count down" to Christmas, always labelled as "Julkalendern" with a specific individual name for the season. In this sense, at least to me (and obviously also to whomever created this show entry in TVmaze from the beginning), it is clear that it should be considered as one show with clearly individual seasons. This is also supported by TheTVDB, who lists all seasons in one single show: https://www.thetvdb.com/series/julkalendern.

However, when I had finished adding all seasons and cleaned up the season and episode names, and was almost also finished with adding season posters, I realised that in some cases, the individual seasons are added as separate shows in here in TVmaze (see for example https://www.tvmaze.com/shows/45560/panik-i-tomteverkstan - the 2019 season, or https://www.tvmaze.com/shows/29883/sunes-jul - the 1991 season). This approach is supported by IMDB, who lists each season as its own show (for the two examples above, see https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11383190/ and https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101213/ ).

My opinion is, as already stated, that "Julkalendern" is one single show, and that each year a new season is added to the show. However, since I do not see how "Julkalendern" could live side-by-side in TVmaze with the individual seasons, I assume that something needs to change - either "Julkalendern" should be split, or the separate shows should be removed. Again, in my opinion, "Julkalendern" should be kept, and the individual seasons should be removed (I would also be very sad if all my work with adding the seasons would be for nothing).

However, this is of course not a decision I can make myself.

To summarise, should "Julkalendern" https://www.tvmaze.com/shows/23957/julkalendern be the one show collecting all separate seasons, or should each season be their own show (e.g., https://www.tvmaze.com/shows/45560/panik-i-tomteverkstan and https://www.tvmaze.com/shows/29883/sunes-jul ). I vote for the first option.

From what you told here I agree it should be one show with several seasons, please list all shows that need deletion :)

have you added all those under the new show, so that I can delete them now?

Yes, all of the shows in the list can be found as individual seasons in the common "Julkalendern". I finished adding the last missing season a few days ago.
