Voting on Shows

With great pleasure I can make the announcement that it is no longer possible to vote on shows before the first episode is released.

We didn't touch episode votes (for now) because the situation there is a lot more complicated. For example, you've got unaired (on the original network) episodes such as in https://www.tvmaze.com/shows/180/firefly/episodes that would never be able to get votes if we blocked voting until after the episode aired.

A simple check for the presence of airdate could solve that. Or the show status, usually unaired episodes means the show was axed prematurely. From what I saw while being here, hate voting is much more common than episodes without airdate. Pick any random high-profile or controversial TV show, and with high probability, you're gonna see votes for the weeks ahead.

We'll think about it, although that would really only be a partial fix, given that we also allow future episodes where no airdate has been announced yet. Like f.e. https://www.tvmaze.com/shows/52469/fantasy-island/episodes.

(See https://www.tvmaze.com/faq/15/episodes#inclusion-policy: HBO announces that the Game of Thrones season 6 premiere will be called "Everybody Dies", but there is no date yet. In this case, the episode can be added with an empty airdate.)

You could allow it only for the ended shows for example. From the top of my head, I can't remember any show which had unaired episodes, yet available elsewhere, while it was still running. Even if such shows exist, I doubt there are more than a few. Anyway, it's just an idea.
