Seasons Disappearing

Hi Everyone, I've already noticed this a while back, but I wasn't sure. This time the edit log is easier to read so I'm able to report this, maybe it's intended but it really seems a bug.

When adding a season with the just the number and network/webchannel, but nothing else (eg, no premiere year or episode order), the season get deleted automatically after some time with no trace on the edit log.

You can see here: https://www.tvmaze.com/shows/79151/ranma-12/edits  There's my entry at Dec 21, 2024, 6:45:21 PM for creating a season, but now there's only one https://www.tvmaze.com/shows/79151/ranma-12/seasons  The show has been renewed (if you know Japanese or trust Google Translate: https://ranma-pr.com/news/654/) but there are no futher details, as it often happens even with more known shows.

Maybe there's some scheduled job that cleans unnecessary seasons, but it's a bit too wide?

Thanks!

Nathan

I think this is a scheduled thing but @david or @Jan can answer this more detailed :)

Correct, seasons without any episodes or "real" information (a network or webchannel doesn't count, since it's automatically inherited from the show) attached to them are automatically cleaned up.

Why do you feel it's too wide? What would be the use of having this season added if there's nothing - not even a premiere year - known about it yet?

Thanks David for the explanation! I think the presence of a new season can support the ”Running” status for the series and avoid edit wars if a news can’t be added (becuase found late or not available in English, like this case), I saw a number of cases for less known shows of status changed to TBD even if already renewed.

On the other end, I understand the logic and I can live with that, but if I may, I‘d suggest to add a log entry so one knows of the deletion, instead of just have it disappeared.

Thanks!
