Do I understand correctly that the English name "The Apothecary Diaries" takes precedence over the transliterated name "Kusuriya no Hitorigoto"?

I don't think we force English titles over non-English ones for shows that originally/first get released in those non-English countries.

Recently this rule got a bit woobly and David or someone allowed even English translation of episode titles to be allowed (i.e. Naruto Shippuden got reverted to those, even though in the episodes themselves, there is ever only Japanese title of the episode).

So far, English titles were acceptable for Japanese Netflix shows since they probably get launched simultaneously.

I don't mind if we start forcing US titles as primary for every show. The Apothecary Diaries has "Kusuriya no Hitorigoto" on poster both in kanji and in latin alphabet, and it does get first released in Japan, and it is Japanese show. But I too first heard of the show by its English title.

I don't think we have any too strict rules seeing how things get changed easily around here. Weirdly enough, I never even considered renaming "Solo Leveling" to its original Japanese title, lol. But in the same way, I would like seeing "Meitantei Conan" get renamed to "Case Closed" simply because it's US title, especially since US translated release came out years after the original Japanese.

So, perhaps we can go about this on case-by-case thing. I think Korean shows are similarly handled. Like, they have English titles, but we often go by literally-translated title, which is almost never used as primary on any other sites that we usually take info for such series from. Sometimes I leave these as primary, but sometimes it's such nonsense where noone ever knows the show by such literal translation that I have to move it to AKA title :D

So sure, change the name back to "The Apothecary Diaries" if you haven't already. That only rule I usually go by is to use titles and character names as they are in the original/first release. I was so shocked when I saw episode descriptions of Meitantei Conan used names like Richard and such, I had no idea those were the English names of main characters, lol. For character names, we shouldn't be using that at least. Which makes you wonder, if we don't use translated character names, why only show titles? ;)) Whatever you decide is fine with me. Thanks for asking for my opinion, but I too am often confused in what is the best approach in all this salad.

Oh, since I mentioned Solo Leveling. I plan to add other characters, but current main cast initially had Korean name (which is used in US dubbed version, and original Korean webtoon), but this is a Japanese show and main character had Japanese name to which I switched it (even when name is part of anime graphics, Japanese names were used). So season 1 I watched this anime with Japanese names used. But starting season 2, I was perplexed when I downloaded and watched Japanese voice-acting and they were using Korean names. On TV here in Japan, when new episode airs they still use Japanese names, though, which makes me wonder if there are two different Japanese voice-acted variations. I plan to return main character's name back to Korean, as well as when I add other characters. Or I may add them as dual "KR Name / JP Name)", but we don't do that for JP/EN name variations. Not sure what the right approach is here. Ah, this is hard. Everyone knows main character as Jin-Woo, not as Shun Mizushino, lol!!!
