Brookside - Addition of Missing Series Data

Sair wrote 5 months ago: 2

As Itvx and stv have made all Brookside available online and there's missing series data here on tvm I'm going to attempt to fill in the blanks. I've not done this kind of thing before but have the full data and want to see it complete. A labour of love. 🙂

ta very much will do 👌🏻

I'm getting my starting data for series 18 from:

https://welovebrookside.co.uk/the-show/the-80s/season-18/

and will continue on with the other pages on the site available through 'show' in the site's menu.  🙂

My only issues id say are, are the episode titles legit. UK soaps tend not to have them but fansites often make them up. Also are we using that website over the episodes been available on itv/still, if so why that site instead?

I'd say they are legit because I've been marking as watched series from the beginning which already existed on tvm and they have tallied exactly with the information on the we love brookside website. Also, the site goes into such detail with other matters to do with the actors, bloopers etc. that it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if they'd got the titles from the original scripts.

edit:

I'm a bit miffed to see that stv's episodes don't go beyond episode 710, 09-08-89 anyway. (I've only seen up to Episode 416 (21/10/86)..... so it looks like whoever added the first lot stopped there.

So I don't see any point in adding for episodes that are not available to watch.  If stv add more then I'm willing to add here.

Oh well my intentions were good.

Im asking though why are we using that website and not itv or stv, do those sites use episode titles?

No titles. see my edited reply above. I'll not be adding any more until stv do anyway. 😞

If the sites well maintained and you have verified information so far, you can always continue using it. I was just curious why we were using it. I would refrain using episode titles unless we can find out where theyve come from.

If stv add more for watching online, I'll add them without titles. Shall I remove the titles from the few I uploaded? Personally, I think it would do no harm to leave the titles but If you would like me to remove the titles from the pre-existing entries that were added by someone else or provided by tvdb source, I can do that for you - ?

I'd look into if the original airing had titles at all when Channel 4 originally broadcast, if we can't verify id say not to use any episode titles at all only because we can't verify it

We have no other way of verifying, so go ahead :)

Found this on wiki so I'll keep on eye on it....

In January 2023, STV Player signed a deal with distributor All3Media to become the first streaming service to provide every episode of Brookside from the beginning;[12]former cast members Claire Sweeney and Sunetra Sarker praised the decision to relaunch the show.[76] The first episodes were made available to view in February that year. Five episodes a week continue to be uploaded to the platform on Wednesdays.

Hello. I'm Simon and I'm the webmaster of the WeLoveBrookside website.

Thought I'd better jump in and answer some of the questions in this thread. All of the information used in the episode guide came from an old website called Brookside Soapbox. I was a moderator on the forum there, and one member known as the 'Brookside Expert' spend time watching every single episode and making all the notes. The episode titles were invented by them based on a phrase said by a character during the episode. I believe there were no official episode titles, just the episode numbers which looks incredibly boring when listing them in order.

When the website closed down several years ago, I saved a copy of everything, and was given permission by the site's owner to reuse elsewhere if I wanted to. So I then went ahead and set up the We Love Brookside website. I believe there are other Brookside fan sites out there now, but at the time I set my site up, I couldn't find any others.

I have plans to expand the site further, but I also run other websites too so my time is limited. If there's anything else you want to know, I'll try and answer as best as I can.

Hi Simon! Thank you for all your interesting information.🙂  I haven't been back recently to see if more episodes have been made available for streaming since I last visited but will do sometime early next year. I may contact you here for details regarding adding to Brookside episodes here in future, Thanks 🙋🏻‍♀️

STV are streaming 5 episodes a week so the show will be fully available in 2029. I've changed the seasons into years, but episodes haven't been updated as they aren't all added yet.

The 70 seasons and episode titles listed only match other volunteer-run websites. There are no on-screen titles and Channel 4 uses years/episode numbering.

I've confirmed there aren't 70 seasons and production number episode titles with the BFI and Radio Times archives, the official Brookside companion book, production paperwork.
