Would it be possible to allow a "special" episode number to handle this?
Perhaps S03 E01a and S03 E01b for "My Bad Part I" and "My Bad Part II" so the two pieces could be listed separately here (with their different credits), but still connect correctly with the rest of the world after that?
"this policy was developed in the era before streaming services." Sure, it makes sense why it was created for the issue of broadcast tv's double episode airing as they are two and would likely be shown in syndication separately, put on DVD that way etc. Very much would encourage a change in the policy to recognize the differences we now have with streaming as this policy is creating a problem for legacy rules reason that do not apply here. As mentioned by others, Apple only ever listed this as one episode, it plays as one episode on streaming, and Apple shows are not something that get put into syndication.
TV Maze is the only place anywhere, that lists Ep 1 as two episodes. The site has effectively invented an episode that has never existed and won't exist and so any media manager or other source that uses this TV Maze data is going to have everything (except episode one) misnamed. I can't imagine anyone actually wants that to be the case here or in any other future cases so I certainly throw my hat in with the "please consider updating the rule for current times" voices.
