Getting rid of the drop-downs..

Adnaan wrote 10 years ago: 1

Hello,

Can the developers get rid of the drop down menus? Especially in the Crew editor as well as the drop down menu when adding a Network to the show. Its very annoying when trying to look for something and scanning through the list in the drop down over and over again. I know we can jump to a specific letter words, but still its annoying! A normal search with a defined choice would work,

I did, It doesnt mention editing main wiki. Where crew jobs are selected and network names have to be selected from drop downs.

Okay, if you want to be that specific, but we've asked them to switch to check boxes for pretty much everything else, so it would make sense that it would encompass any section which needs update/removal.

Check boxes are good for cast appearances as it has more than one selection needed (more than one cast appearance per episode). Crew (job) menu is specific to one person, when adding crew, every single time we need to choose what the crew member we added does. That's the drop down menu I am talking about. I don't think you understand.

Let me make this right, you're talking show level, right ? Then we're not talking about the same thing again ;)

If you are talking show level, then i'm against it, you need that drop down menu at first. You do it once overall and then from time to time when they change Assistant Director or add new editors etc.

And with drop down menus, you can do more than jump to a specific letter, you can write the entire first word and it will get to it. There may be a better way, I don't know, maybe the system they use to search people but for me that is would actually be annoying. But that's a preference.

You need a check box with an "all" on top of it like when you're in your webmail and you want to delete all at once, or when you're in a database.... And like I said we did ask for it to be extending to crew as well though a few crew positions change from one episode to the next : music, editor, DoP etc. Since crew is added at show level, it's exactly the same as recurring or main cast.

Yes I am talking about the show level, not the episode level.

And I am talking about adding crew members on the show level. Not just marking them present in each episode (for which checkboxes make sense).

So the drop down menu, as you said, I could type the first word. I know that, but that doesn't help when there are 5-10 crew types which have the same first word. Example: Visual Effects, Visual Effects Producer, Visual Effects Coordinator, Visual Effects Technician, Visual Effects Cameraman, Visual Effects Animator, Visual Effects Compositor, etc.

That is why, I was suggesting where I could type "Compo" and it would show me a underlay search output of "Visual Effects Compositor".
