thumbnails

Karmy posted 2 years ago

hey panda, I added the red nose one-shot and decided to check the others and they don't have thumbnails? then I thought you must not have gotten there yet but then I looked at campaign 1 episodes and they're missing thumbnails as well? do you happen to know what's happening, or did you not add to them yet and I'm going crazy?

PandaRed posted 2 years ago

Hi Karmy!

No you are not going crazy my friend, I have just been distracted by things IRL. And I confess, I did forget all about the blank thumbnails. I'll start working on them today, thanks for reaching out to me, it gives me the warm fuzzies 🌻 👍🏻

Karmy, OMG, did you stay up until dawn putting all the thumbnails in!! Now I feel bad, though impressed! You dear dear person ❤️

Pic resolution

puffosul posted 2 years ago

Hi,

Where did you get the pics to https://www.tvmaze.com/shows/59231/the-game from? Very interesting resolution. :)

https://www.tvmaze.com/images/947260/the-diva-went-down-to-georgia-image-947260 1478x831px

... but Paramount+ has FHD pics (1920x1080px). To get that resolution https://thumbnails.cbsig.net/_x/w400/CBS_Production_Entertainment_VMS/2021/11/12/1973366339578/CBS_THE_GAME_102_NO_LOGO_1039435_1920x1080.jpg replace w400 from the link with w1920.

Here https://www.tvmaze.com/episodes/2233311/the-game-1x06-new-whips-same-chains/gallery you uploaded twice a 1600x1200px pic... it's not even 16:9, it's 4:3.

Please be more careful with the aspect ratio and resolutions of the pictures you're uploading. You can check the resolution by pasting the pic link in a new tab. (the tab name will show you the resolution of the picture.

You can also check out the rules in Data Policies where you can find more information.

All the best.

Hi puff, re the first pic, I got it from amazon? It looked pretty good in the close up, but I'll change it if you like. Also sorry for uploading the same picture twice, I would have deleted the low rez one, but I didn't have that option to delete. I wish I did : /, as soon as I uploaded it I thought 'ooooh noooo'.

Have a good Boxing Day, if that's your thing.

puffosul posted 2 years ago

Amazon has 4:3 aspect ratio pics... I wouldn't recommend it as a source (unless it's the official's show page, and we crop their pics to 16:9)

The official page should be the 1st source to check (and 99% of the time, the best source). Rules also say that the highest resolution pic available should be uploaded. (That's why I messaged you)

PandaRed posted 2 years ago

Hi puff, you sound pretty annoyed with me? I'm sorry I didn't get the pictures uploaded right, but I'm working on doing better, and that's all I can do really.

puffosul posted 2 years ago

I'm not annoyed at all... my intention was to provide you info, so you can do better. :)

PandaRed posted 2 years ago

Hi puffosul, I wanted to come clean and tell you that all of my uploaded images may be not right.

In my defense, this was the image requirements that I read when I arrived https://www.tvmaze.com/faq/42/show-main-images

https://www.tvmaze.com/faq/44/show-image-general-guidelines
Which seems to say that the only fanart/background images should be 16:9 ratio, which is how I got turned around.

Another confession: I have no idea what '16:9' ratio is. I thought it meant 1920x1080, but I was wrong in that :/ My image software doesn't do ratios, or I haven't found the right button for it. I also have discaulula, and I can get confused by numbers, especially things to do with fractions or ratios, unless I write it down.
I know this could mean more work for the mods, and I do applogise :( I'll stay away from uploading images until I get it right.

puffosul posted 2 years ago

Hey, it's no problem. There's a fix for everything.

Aspect ratio is width/height. 16:9 is also known as Wide, 4:3 is the old aspect ratio (if you remember old monitors were more like square than rectangular)

Common 16:9 resolutions are: 1280x720px, 1920x1080px, 2560x1440px and 3840x2160px.

For example if a show from Amazon has pics of 1600x1200px (4:3 ratio) we cut them to 1600x900px (16:9 ratio)

If I'm not using an official source, I generally look at the previous episode's picture to see what resolution it is and try to get a pic of that resolution. Anyway, 1920x1080px is the resolution most pictures I upload have.

So my advice is to keep uploading, learn and ask if you have any questions. :D

PandaRed posted 2 years ago

Your answer is so kind...I'm literally tearing up! I'm glad you can't see, because it's embarrassing XD

Thanks, I appreciate it <3

puffosul posted 2 years ago

No problem. I forgot to tell you about posters. Avoid tvdb posters, they have a very specific crappy low resolution:680x1000px. (because they only allow this resolution, the posters are cropped and they have low quality)

If you google a show you can easily find a 960x1440px or 1175x1763px poster, even higher resolutions like 1920x2880px. Just avoid tvdb :) You can find on tvguide.com or rottentomatoes higher resolution posters if they're not available on the official website, or you can request on Forum. :)

PandaRed posted 2 years ago

That is some very good advice, I'll do that! :)

puffosul posted 2 years ago

Just letting you know that we usually crop pictures from amazon (because they're 4:3 instead of 16:9), so I replaced your uploaded 1600x1200px with the cropped 1600x900px from "The Legend of Vox Machina"

PandaRed posted 2 years ago

Ah right, got it. Thanks puffosul <3

Edit: How does it not look, hmm...scrunched? I tried cropping Wheel of Time ones and eventually gave up because it was so frustrating, but your crops look great!

puffosul posted 2 years ago

I right click on the full res picture in the browser >> Copy Image, open Photoshop >> New >> 1600x900px >> Paste and after that I can easily move the image up / down to get the best position for the cropped version >> Flatten Image (because what I pasted is a layer over the background) >> Save >> Upload ;)

PandaRed posted 2 years ago

Neat!
How do you flatten image? Is that just a button I can find and press?

puffosul posted 2 years ago

It's in the Layer menu (or you can use Ctrl+E > Merge Layer)

PandaRed posted 2 years ago

I'll have to check that out, thank you :)
I appreciate you answering so many questions <3
