Ratings Roundup Week of April 30, 2017

NBC started to wrap up its season with finales for Taken and Superstore last week. Superstore is already renewed; Taken might squeak a second season it will all depend on what the fall schedule looks like for the Peacock; the ratings were never stellar, but they weren't really terrible either. Blindspot and The Blacklist should also see good renewal news in the next week. Great News started well, but sank fast; add in that NBC is again burning through the episodes at two a week, and renewal looks doubtful.

FOX snuck another late week announcement in as Family Guy was renewed the end of last week. Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Prison Break however, are not having a very good Spring; both programs lost viewers steadily since returning for the back half of the season. Both could still see a renewal but where it was a sure thing before, now is a bit in question. There is no question about Making History, however as it's likely canceled.

One thing you can say for TheCW, it is consistent. Ratings are virtually identical to past weeks as The Flash leads once again. Still no news on The Originals or iZombie, though if the network sticks to past processes, The Originals is probably canceled and iZombie renewed. Of course that pattern was exactly how Jane the Virgin survived for another season and network execs may be rethinking that decision in the face of falling numbers.

ABC had more ratings success last week with the NBA playoffs pumping up its Saturday night numbers. Dancing with the Stars dipped a bit more over its numbers from a few weeks ago. Once Upon a Time managed to bounce back up a bit, and Imaginary Mary is most likely done, it's been slowly sinking the last few weeks. American Crime mercifully ended last week, to the relief of the scheduling execs.

Most CBS programs will finish next week, Blue Bloods however got the ball rolling a week early. The silence regarding The Great Indoors is deafening and fans must be noticing as the ratings for the program are its lowest to date, new time slot notwithstanding. The only show really still in doubt is Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. Ratings have been steady, and networks do like franchise shows (note the success of various NCIS versions and the Chicago everything over on NBC), but will the Eye take a steady franchise ratings producer over the potential for a ratings winner off a new pilot?
