Ratings Roundup for the Week of November 21, 2021

With the Thanksgiving holiday, repeats and Christmas specials dominated the schedules last week.

ABC execs breathed a sigh of relief last week as The American Music Awards held its audience from last year's ceremony. The Good Doctor picked up a tenth from the previous week. It's now off the schedule until May 2022, so things are iffy as to whether or not the show will be renewed. Queens was even for ratings, but dropped another hundred thousand viewers. The Bachelorette lost a tenth.

CBS feasted on a Thanksgiving football overrun, then squandered that audience on repeats, which explains the high numbers for Young Sheldon and United States of Al. CSI: Vegas was even with the previous week, but the lack of any back nine episode order announcement by now is a good sign the show is done. The Equaliser and NCIS: Los Angeles were even with their last new episodes. Neither show is in any danger of cancellation.

NBC took two big bites from the NFL apple last week, both games pulling in an equal audience share. La Brea lost a tenth. Ordinary Joe found it gaining a tenth that won't matter in the long run. New Amsterdam was even.

FOX enjoyed a Sunday night NFL overrun that bumped up the animation block. The Resident lost a tenth. The network pulled The Big Leap and Our Kind of People and replaced them with repeats of 9-1-1 and The Masked Singer respectively. On one hand, the change makes sense with the lower holiday watch numbers, the network doesn't want to waste new episodes. Unfortunately, the repeats still did better than new episodes of both freshman shows. Not a good sign for the future of either show.

The CW had a quiet week. The Flash lost a ratings tenth, but held its premiere viewer numbers. Riverdale held its premiere numbers. 4400 lost one hundred thousand viewers, but will probably be renewed. Legends of the Hidden Temple lost its ratings tenth, though it held its pitiful viewer numbers. Chances are, it's done. DC's Legends of Tomorrow was even, Batwoman picked up one hundred thousand viewers.

Whether the networks have publicly said so or not, the die is cast for the Fall freshman shows. Will your new favorite shows still be around after the holidays?

How is it that The Good Doctor is rated 6th? When it should be on top of the rest of pile.

The Good Doctor's numbers have been sinking since its second season and more than just normal attrition. It is now off the air until Spring, and it would not surprise me if this is its last season.

Good question. That's according to our schedule here at Maze, so assuming that's correct (and I have no reason to think it's not) ABC is pulling The Good Doctor to premiere something else in that slot that they hope will pull in a bigger audience. Not a good sign for the Good Doctor.

And personally, of the shows that I watch during the week, that's probably the only one I consistently consider to take off my DVR and stop watching because other shows have been holding my attention better
