Episode Discussion

turnet posted a year ago

The ending of this episode is one of the best I've ever seen. From turning in her badge and gun, to the swing in the rain, that kiss, to the shot of their hands clasping it was the emotional release that all 4 preceding seasons had built to.

Season 4 beautifully set up E23, and when that episode ended, their emotional "dance" was complete.

Exceptional setup, wonderful writing and direction, outstanding choice of music (You're In My Veins) which had been used effectively under other episodes as "their song," perfect acting by both Beckett and Castle, mood lighting (just a bit dark, yet appropriate at the end), juxtaposition with Alexis speech "they are our North Star" and ending in the character's series byword, "Always." The rain drenched Beckett, "You, Castle. I want you," and then "that kiss."

All in all, this is my favorite Castle episode to rewatch many, many times.
