Instead of just "special", allow different types of specials like 'recap episode', 'special episode', 'preview'. Some of these types would have the property "significant to the show's story line", others wouldn't.
In your preferences you'd be able to choose how you want your calendar & watch list displayed: "no specials", "only significant specials", or "all specials".
