Official Sources links

Fay wrote 9 years ago: 1

If we want the site to be correct. Pages should be pointing to the source. They need to be more specific than just saying "from an official source". It would be good if we have a choice to select where the info comes from. Press Release, or network name or link.

Greetzzzz :)

Hi Fay,

Good suggestion. We're currently dicussing the subject internally with the other editors.

I've thought about this before, but chose for the current system because I thought specifying anything more than "Official source: Yes / No" wouldn't add any value.

For example, if we know that the summary for an episode is from an official source, it's pretty unambiguous where it came from: the press release that the network released for that episode. Likewise for other entities like shows or characters: the network either released an official summary for them or they didn't.

Of course we can at any point decide to change how to display these summaries. For example, we could automatically display "Source: FOX" for each Bones episode summary that's marked as coming from an official source. But is there any real value in storing a "press release / network name / link" with each individual episode summary? This could cause quite a mess as probably one episode would end up with "FOX" as source, another as "www.fox.com", yet another one as "www.foxflash.com", etc etc.

That last one is a good point. 'FOX' would indeed not add any value to the page in question. The core of the issue is being able to track the original referenced source. It could be a book, magazine, external link, citation.. These will add value and credibility to the page. The question is how to make this work without making a mess.
