That's the reason why it's created another.

Not sure why though, I currently see two 'Dr. Sanjay Gupta' when I search for it, so not sure why you had an issue before (maybe just temporary issue in the search).

Would you like me to merge them?

When I normally add a guest cast who has appeared before, the character will pop up pre-filled. Using the bulk add today it did not and as I typed nothing popped up similar to how after typing part of an actors name, suggestions appear. I assumed using the bulk add somehow altered that behaviour and it wasn't till tonight I saw the results. If it doesn't happen again or can't be replicated then it's likely I messed up or my browser had a brain fart.

And I've checked, looks like you're right that it doesn't automatically select the character on bulk guest cast so you'll just need to search for them yourself.
