Celebrating Firefly

For anyone that is a fan of the short lived series Firefly, you may want to tune in to the UK SyFy channel this weekend as they celebrate the shows 15th Birthday. From 2pm on Saturday, they will be airing episodes 1-8 and then from 2pm Sunday, they will be airing episodes 9-15, followed by the follow-up movie, Serenity, at 9pm.

For those that know nothing about the series created by Joss Whedon, Firefly is a fusion of sci-fi and western set 500 years in the future and follows the renegade crew of the Serenity spaceship as they take pretty much any job so long as it puts food on the table. Nathan Fillion leads the crew as Captain Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds.

The series is an absolute must see, if you haven't already done so. It was visually beautiful and all the cast involved did fantastic jobs. I remember the outcry from fans across the globe when the series didn't get renewed and rightly so. It could have run for at least a couple more seasons, in my opinion. It also had a great theme tune, which you can listen to via this YouTube video:

If you have never watched Firefly, I highly recommend you do so this weekend, if you can. If you have watched it & enjoyed it as much as I did, then you will really enjoy watching it again.

Please, do share your favourite memories of Firefly below. I look forward to reading them.

Fie on the "teenage mutant TV programmers" at Fox. (They wouldn't know a good thing if it hit them in the head.) I suspect that some of these snarky creatures now infest "The SyFy Network." (Feed them to the sharks? Nope, the animals know all about toxic substances.;)

From the very start the network interfered and did not air the episodes in order. From wanting to have the first episode that introduces each person and a hint of there back story, the network wanted a more action episode and aired the second episode first and just jumbled up the rest. proving once and for all that they had no confidence in the show and never intended to continue/renew the show even before it went to air. But Josh and the cast got there revenge when all the fans insisted on a movie and the network got screwed over that. And now Josh is in so much demand that he has to knock back work that he would love to do, except he just doesn't have the time. Oh, and when was the last time any of them worked for Fox, I guess they ain't gonna make money from them after all. Revenge is best served cold. :-)

This show was way ahead of its time, but gladly things got wrapped up somehow in the theatrical movie "Serenity".
