And that's how you do Pack. Sort of. With "The Dark Prince Returns" we get a lot more of Karan Soni as Keith, a hapless survivor who does everything wrong and is completely incompetent. But at least he has some personality. Which is more than Pack (Asif Ali) can say. In fact, this week's best Pack performance is when an unconscious Pack drifts down a stream.
Let's recap. As with most Wrecked episodes, there isn't that much to recap. The episode breaks down into two main stories, and one very minor one. The first main story is Chet shoots Karen in the stomach and runs off. After Danny, Owen, and Florence argue a bit, Danny and Owen go off to get the first aid kit from the supply circle. Which seems kind of strange: why provide the huntees with a first aid kit when the goal is to see them dead?
But the supplies are gone and Bruce (Will McLaughlin) presumably makes a last appearance. He explains Chet wounded him (fatally?) and left him there as a warning. As they say, there are no small parts, just small actors. McLaughlin gives it his all as an overacting Texas redneck who rambles on for several minutes with an ominous story about how the "Dark Prince" left him there. It's Chet, who Bruce overdramatically says is now a demon-possessed hunter killer.
Danny and Owen stumble across Keith, who in a funny bit explains Chet left him there to sneak through the jungle and whisper Chet's name ominously to creep people out. Danny outlines a couple of stupid plans to get the first aid kit Chet took with the rest of the supplies. Owen points out they're all stupid, and Keith agrees to go into the camp and get the kit as long as they're friends with him.
Keith keeps looking at Danny and Owen, and when Chet catches him, Keith helpfully points them out. They get captured, and after a long Chet-rant about how he's getting back to his roots, Owen says he wants to fight the camp leader to the death. However, he pretends Keith is the leader. Chet drives a knife into Keith's head and says he's the leader, and Chet and Owen prepare to fight.
Todd and Jess argue. A lot. Jess' bracelet malfunctions and Pack remembers seeing the generator shack and they figure Jess can get through the shock pylons because of her malfunctioning bracelet. Jess manages to knock Pack out with her staff. They cross a stream and Todd (Will Greenberg) spends a lot of time taking off his shirt and flexing his pecs. The trio eventually get across and arrive at the power shack, and before Jess can brave the shock pylons, Todd says he loves her. She kisses him, using a lot of tongue, and Todd says he'd rather have the "grown-ass" Jess back who knows how to use the right amount of tongue.
Florence stays with Karen, and we get bits of Karen's story of how she met her husband Anthony. Which involves his being a lifeguard, and her lifting a bus off of him, and his going to the Paralympics. It's very... Karenish.
At the end, Declan and his group of rich buddies discover Todd, Pack, and Jess are at the power shack They then do that Austin Powers bit where people say something, and then they cut to other people using the last word the last person said to start their own sentence.
Declan tells Martha to get to the power shack.
Florence helps Karen through the jungle.
Owen and Chet fight to the death.
Jess discovers the generator controls are too complicated for her to figure out.
So "The Dark Prince Returns" wasn't too bad. It was about average for a Wrecked episode, and why I keep watching it. There was one or two laugh-out-loud moments, some funny bits, a lot of so-so humor, and a few duds. Pack didn't stink up the place too badly. Steve (Rhys Darby) is also absent, having fallen off a cliff with an arrow in his chest at the end of the last episode. He'll be back, both because he's in next week's preview and because his name is still in the credits. So the funnier actors get a chance to do more.
Next week is the two-episode finale, as TBS wraps Wrecked up before the "real" network shows starts on The CW on October 9.
But that's all just my opinion (except the last part). I could be wrong. What do you think?
