Daredevil Returns!

130654.jpgThis past week, I finally had the opportunity to finish Daredevil, and it wasn't that great. I enjoyed Daredevil season 1 but there were some moments within that show that were incredibly campy and took me right out of the show. I'll break down below what I liked and didn't like about this second season. For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, check otu the trailer below for season 2 of Daredevil.

Liked:

The Punisher AKA Frank Castle played by John Bernthal. This man can act. He was great in The Walking Dead, Show Me a Hero, and also had a small but incredibly important bit in the movie Sicario, Fantastic actor and he plays this character to a t. No ambivalence, no wavering, and literally he takes no prisoners. I would love, possibly, a spin off with just this character. However, I'm not too sure I would like it if it was 13 episodes long as are all these Netflix original dramas. NETFLIX SHORTEN YOUR GOD DAMN SHOWS! But in all seriousness, I thought he was a great character and can't wait to see him return for The Defenders.

Stick as played by Scott Glenn. He plays this role as well as Bernthal plays the Punisher. He is relentless, pointed, and terrifying. He had no qualms about what he had to do/needed to do and I absolutely love that in a character. I would also love a spin off with this character, but it too would probably be damaged by Netflix's episode length. Scott Glenn has this skinny strength to him that just comes across so well in the series.

The fight sequences were just as good if not better then in season 1. The fight scene in the prison with The Punisher and the fight scene with Daredevil in the warehouse, I believe, were both incredibly well done and a lot of fun to watch.

Dislike:

Daredevil as played by Charlie Cox. My God was he insufferable this season. Where Stick and The Punisher were pointed instruments of death, Daredevil was the whiny boy in the corner that was trying to debate the difference between killing someone and maiming them. Now I completely understand this argument when a hero is arguing for the lives of innocent victims but when you are arguing for the life of murderers, it is a hard one to make. I'm not saying that every murderer should be killed but what I am saying is it was painful to watch and it isn't great storytelling. And in the end, spoiler alert, Daredevil didn't even care that much.

Daredevil's relationship with Karen Page as played by Deborah Ann Woll. Gag me this was frustrating to watch. I didn't care if either of them broke up or stayed together. It was incredibly annoying and I just wanted to get back to The Punisher breaking some bones.

Daredevil's relationship with Elektra as played by Elodie Young. Gag me again. The flashback to how their relationship began was stupid, in that she decided to box a blind man, and their courtship throughout the rest of this series didn't even amount to much.

Elektra in general frustrated me. She was skinny, probably weighed 120 130 I'm guessing and yet was throwing dudes left and right all over the place. Women can be muscular, fit, and still be sexy. Please stop showing us a weakling and expect us to believe that she has the strength of a 200 pound heavily muscled man.

The length of this series, as mentioned before, frustrated me. It frustrated me in Jessica Jones and frustrated me in Daredevil season 1. For God's sake, Netflix, if a show doesn't have enough plot for 13 episodes, you don't have to make it 13 episodes. If I feel like I have to push through until the very end of this series it is much too long.

Did you see Dardevil season 2? If so what did you think about it? Comment below and let me know.

No matter if the plot is good or bad, tiresome or not, I always rather all the episodes come out at the same time, cause it's better to binge watch, you don't forget what happened.

Punisher and Elektra were the only standout parts of S2 for me.

I'm so glad to see new superheroes, and Punisher the most. John Bernthal is one of my favorite actors and it's so awesome that he plays one of my favorite heroes :D

Newsflash - even 200 pound heavily muscled men can not throw other guys around like that. It's a COMIC with SUPERHEROES, you don't seriously expect that to be "realistic", do you?

I would likely be less annoyed if it was over the course of 13 weeks

AR - as an "addict", I guess you are unable to restrain yourself from watching it over 13 weeks. Is there a "13 Step" program you could join? :)

I agree on many points, however I do attribute much of the problem to the way it is released.

I would likely be less annoyed if it was over the course of 13 weeks, instead of watching it (because it is available has no ads etc...) in just 4 or 5 days

Agreed on likes and dislikes, although I don't dislike Charlie Cox as much. I totally hate Vincenmt D'Onofrio as Fisk. Hate. His acting is stilted, and just plain annoying.
