ABC announced several renewals last week. The Good Doctor, The Rookie, Station 19, and Will Trent all received the good news. Will Trent was the first of the rookie dramas to get a second-season nod. Chances are The Rookie: Feds will be joining it soon. Not Dead Yet should also get a second season. Prospects are iffier for The Company You Keep. It has never really taken off with viewers, though it did pick up two hundred thousand viewers last week. Abbott Elementary wrapped its second season, up two hundred thousand viewers.

CBS had a quiet week with about half of its schedule in repeats. The Equaliser and East New York returned after a couple of weeks off. Both shows were down three hundred thousand viewers. True Lies was down one hundred thousand viewers. Still no word on if the two rookie shows will be renewed. SWAT picked up three hundred thousand viewers after a week off. Assuming the series can deal with its budget questions, it should be renewed.

NBC wrapped the second season of American Auto last week. The sophomore comedy series lost one hundred thousand viewers as it limped over the finish line. It performed better than just about every other comedy on the network with the exception of Night Court, and may yet squeak a third season. Lopez vs Lopez picked up one hundred thousand viewers after a week off. It may be too little too late to save the series, however.

FOX continued to play with its Sunday animation block last week. The Simpsons and HouseBroken were MIA while back-to-back episodes of Family Guy filled the gap. Farmer Wants A Wife picked up one hundred thousand viewers. Animal Control was even but low, and likely done.

The CW ran mostly repeats last week. All American returned after a couple of weeks off, down one hundred thousand viewers. The Great American Joke Off was even. No one is seeing the humor in Totally Weird and Funny it seems. The show barely scraped two hundred thousand viewers last week. Expect it to be unceremoniously yanked as soon as its current run of episodes is done, if not sooner.

The WGA voted a week ago to call a strike if its current negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) falter. The current contract expires on May 1 and among other things, the WGA is asking for a major overhaul in how writers are compensated for time and how residuals, especially for streaming shows, are calculated. While a vote to allow a strike doesn't mean one will be called immediately, it appears a work stoppage is almost inevitable.
Adding to the pressure, SAG-AFTRA and the DGA start their own negotiations on June 7. Their contracts expire June 30. SAG-AFTRA has also stated plans to restructure the current compensation package for its members, particularly around streaming shows and streaming residuals for over-the-air programs.
The last time there was a work-stoppage in Hollywood was 2007-2008 when the WGA went on strike for three months.
