Ratings Roundup for the Week of March 16, 2025

FOX wrapped the first season of Doc last week. The medical drama was even with the previous week. Kitchen Nightmares closed out its latest season, down one hundred thousand viewers. Farmer Wants A Wife opened its third season even with last year. The Sunday animation block continued to struggle last week. Rumors started flying last week that the network will shortly have a deal in place to bring American Dad back to the network. The Seth MacFarlane series ran for ten years on FOX before moving to TBS in 2015. FOX will likely grab the series back as a way to stop the ratings haemorrhaging on Sunday nights.

ABC wrapped the first season of Shifting Gears last week. The Tim Allen-led series finished down a few tens of thousands of viewers, but should be renewed. Doctor Odyssey picked up more than a million viewers last week. That's the good news. As for the bad news, it and Grey's Anatomy were once again the lowest-rated dramas for the network. Chances are one of them will be cancelled. Will Trent was up one hundred thousand viewers and should be an easy renewal. The Rookie was even.

CBS' schedule will be scrambled for the next couple of weeks for NCAA basketball. Tracker picked up seven hundred thousand viewers last week, once again making it the highest-rated drama for the network. FBI picked up half a million viewers. FBI: International was down three hundred thousand viewers after the cancellation news. FBI: Most Wanted was even.  Watson was up another three hundred thousand last week. However, it may be a case of too little too late in terms of a renewal. The Equaliser was down another hundred thousand viewers last week. That won't help its chances of renewal as it was once again the lowest-rated drama for the network.

Networks are wrapping their winter shows and getting set to premiere their spring stable of content. How are your favorite shows faring this season?

Whatever happened to shows running from fall until sweeps in May?

That died with the advent of streaming. Linear networks now live in fear of the rerun and try to avoid airing them as much as possible. That's why there is an entire mini-season that runs from Thanksgiving to New Year's with all of the holiday cartoons and shows like The Great Christmas Light Fight. Now, networks break things into four thirteen-week blocks.

Fall Season -- September to November

Winter Season -- January to March

Spring Season -- March to May

Summer Season -- May to August

Some shows will air through several different blocks (NCIS, the Law & Orders, OneChicago). Others, like comedies Shifting Gears, Lopez vs Lopez or dramas such as Brillant Minds or NCIS: Sydney only air within their block. This also makes for shorter seasons which are cheaper to produce (thirteen to sixteen episodes instead of twenty-two.)
