Viewing ratings and voting on the general show page

Hi everyone,

Last week we received feedback on the forum regarding the lack of voting on shows and episodes.

To get a better general idea, we checked out some statistics such as:

  • the amount of shows being 'followed' vs rated.
  • 'watched' episodes vs rated.
  • ...

Our conclusion was that the gap between shows being followed/watched and the ratings count was ridiculously disproportionate.

The lack of votes has caused a downwards spiral where users vote less because of the lack of votes. we want to turn that around and we need your help to accomplish this.

Since a show rating and the amount of votes is one of the factors as to whether someone will watch a show, we've set up a plan to improve the way shows and episodes are voted on.

Our first change has already been implemented on the general show page. Where you now can directly vote on shows without having to visit the show page itself.

We're also increasing the amount of votes required before users can see an average rating. One single rating is not representative of a show's quality and can have a negative impact on how a show is perceived. So, we'd rather not show anything until the rating is more balanced.

We think that these changes will have a positive impact.
Should you have any feedback, we would very much like to hear it.

cheers,

Jan & David

Just curious, how many votes before a rating is going be shown?

On the changes themselves, I like them and think it improves the usefulness of the site overall.

EDIT:

BTW, I still think being able to give a show a rating season by season is also useful. Many shows have ups & downs the longer they run and while I may think a show is overall an 8 that doesn't mean I wouldn't give a season or two a 6 or less. Ideally, season ratings would be calculated by an average of the ratings given to each episode that season rather than an individual vote on the season page.
