A star trapeze artist at one point, Mamie made a great deal of money. She has one grandson, Ken, and raised the boy after his parents died. Mamie retired to become a seamstress with the circus, and spent her money to put Ken through medical school.
When Ken visits and falls in love with the circus' trapeze artist, Estelle, he decides to quite medical school and join the circus full-time. Mamie tries to convince him otherwise but fails. When Estelle's back is broken during a trapeze fall, Ken uses his skills to save her and resolves to complete medcail school and then take Mamie to live with him and his soon-to-be wife.
