A dangerous serial killer is at large in Chicago. His targets are consistently females, whom he slays using a scalpel. Young cop Katy Mahoney is determined to apprehend the culprit. She convinces photographer Della, whom she saved from a drug-related situation, to assist her. Della understands the dangers involved but agrees to Katy's plea. Subsequently, Katy grapples with intense self-blame, yet the authorities eventually obtain a crucial breakthrough.
