This (sorta) jogged free a memory from the pre-"Star Trek" era of TV Science Fiction. I also recall reading/hearing about using water to mitigate high G acceleration in spaceflight when Werner Von Braun was overseeing the U.S. space program. Even though a radiation protective human waste shield is an existing idea, it's pretty new and clever for a sci-fi show. Although with the giant observation decks it defeats the purpose.
