A woman hires Paladin to find her mother, nicknamed "Blue Dollar Alice." Paladin soon tracks Alice to Codeyville and discovers how she got her nickname.

A young woman approaches Paladin in the lobby of the Carlton and places his own card on his sleeve. As a young woman comes over and flirts with Paladin, the newcomer glares at Paladin and he assures her that while he may not fit the image of a gunfighter, he is Paladin. The woman introduces herself as Maya Ferguson and explains that her mother Alice mailed her Paladin's card and told her to find the gunfighter if she ever needed help.
