A mysterious woman abducts and imprisons Paladin and three other people, and soon reveals that she is seeking revenge for an incident that happened six years earlier.

Paladin arrives at a Barbary Coast bar and passes out from a drugged drink a few minutes later. The bartender has his men haul him to the basement, and when Paladin wakes up he finds himself in an abandoned warehouse with a man and woman. The man, Wiggen, asks what it's all about and Paladin tells them that he has no idea. The woman, Alice, asks Paladin for something to drink.
