The Department of Health and Human Services announced that director Susan Monarez, appointed by President Trump, is no longer with the CDC. With the school year beginning on Monday, the theme was "a future filled with hope." Now the church and parishioners are hoping their faith can guide them in this dark time. Police say the shooter who opened fire on children as they prayed in their pews had posted disturbing videos prior to the massacre. Police said they have not yet identified a motive, but a Facebook post identified the shooter's mother as a former employee of that Catholic church. NBC News' Maggie Vespa reports. Tonight, Minneapolis is grieving after a shooter opened fire on children at the Annunciation Catholic School during morning worship service marking the first week of school. Police say the shooter was armed with 3 weapons and started firing through the stained-glass windows, killing two children and injuring 17 others. NBC News' Shaquille Brewster reports from Minneapolis. The mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey, described the moment he found out about the deadly shooting at a church in his city. "The kids impacted were literally praying at the time of this tragic and horrible shooting," Frey said. He added: "We need a whole hell of a lot more than thoughts and prayers." NBC News' Tom Llamas reports. Officials in North Carolina released drone video of first responders saving a pilot from his plane after it crashed into the ocean. The crash happened earlier this month when the plane began experiencing engine failure. NBC News' Jesse Kirsch speaks with the firefighters who made the rescue.
