Since the mob killing of his wife years ago, old man Wakefield has gone on murderous rampages with his sons. Now the Wakefields are trying to run down and kill Matt in the freezing mountains.

This was the first episode without Amanda Blake in the cast as Miss Kitty. Even though Miss Kitty was a well-known and central character on 'Gunsmoke' for 19 seasons, her departure from Dodge City was not explained and her name never mentioned in this, or any subsequent episodes.
