On Ferdinand's advice, Vanessa goes to see an alienist, Dr. Seward. Meanwhile, Ethan receives a reprieve from death while Malcolm receives a visitor. Elsewhere, Caliban begins his journey back to England while Victor seeks out an old friend for help dealing with Lily.

In Malcolm’s empty townhouse, the letters pile up inside the front door. Vanessa lies on her bed, staring off into space. She finally goes downstairs to the kitchen to feed herself. There’s a knock at the door and Vanessa cowers away. Ferdinand calls out and says that he knows Vanessa is there, and promises that he won’t leave until she answers.
