"The Acolyte" Canceled at Disney+ After One Season

The story of The Acolyte will not continue, with Lucasfilm opting not to proceed with a second season of the Star Wars offshoot starring Amandla Stenberg. Word of the decision comes more than a month after the eight-episode first season of the series from creator, director, executive producer and showrunner Leslye Headland wrapped its run on Disney+.

The news is not entirely surprising. The Acolyte did OK with critics, with 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, but divided Star Wars fans, which was reflected in its overall viewership.

The cancellation of "The Acolyte" isn’t a huge surprise, especially with its low 4.8/10 rating on TVMaze. Despite the potential and a decent 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s clear that the show didn’t resonate with a large portion of viewers. The divided reactions from the Star Wars fanbase really held it back. While some elements were interesting, they just didn’t land for enough people. Hopefully, future Star Wars projects can learn from this and better connect with the audience.
