Imagine a town where everyday objects have wild, unpredictable powers and four kids are the only ones who can stop the chaos. That’s the world of Vanishing Point, a brand-new animated comedy-action series announced today by BBC Studios Kids & Family Productions.
Created by the award-winning duo Tom Gran and Martin Woolley and commissioned by BBC Children’s & Education and by France Télévisions, Vanishing Point is packed with laughs, mystery, and high-energy adventures for kids aged 8+.
Set in the shabby seaside town of Vanishing Point, the series follows a group of four teens, Ivy, Cole, Zefi and Splash, whose world is turned upside-down when their town is overrun by ordinary-looking objects with bizarre, hidden powers.
With the help of Bernie, a grumpy junkyard owner who knows more than she lets on, the gang become unlikely heroes as they battle the curious objects, thought to have extra-dimensional power trapped inside.
They make a formidable team, secretly protecting the town from the dangers and mayhem of the supernatural objects. Meanwhile there are sinister inter-dimensional agents on a quiet mission to drain the town of its cosmic energy.
From a fridge magnet that manipulates metal objects to cause chaos, or a bow tie which compels the wearer to reveal their innermost thoughts, every episode is a new adventure full of surprises, teamwork and fun.
Tom and Martin say: “It's not an exaggeration to say this really is a dream come true for us. Ever since we met on an animation course almost 20 years ago we've dedicated our lives to telling stupid jokes and creating rich worlds so to see it actually come to life is incredible. We owe a huge debt of thanks to all the people who have supported us along the way and everyone who's made this show happen. Hopefully audiences will love the characters and stories as much as we do. It's been so much fun creating this world and we can't wait to share it with everyone.”
Vanishing Point is a co-production between BBC Studios Kids & Family Productions, France’s Watch Next Media and Irish animation producer, Kavaleer Productions, with support from Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland and CNC, France.
It has been commissioned by BBC Children’s & Education and France Télévisions and will be distributed internationally by BBC Studios.
Cecilia Persson, Managing Director at BBC Studios Kids & Family, says: “We love making shows that spark kids’ imaginations, and Vanishing Point does just that. It’s quirky, fast-paced and full of heart - perfect for curious minds who love a good action-packed adventure full of mystery. It offers a fresh perspective on action-driven storytelling that we are looking forward to showing to audiences around the world.”
Philippe Alessandri, CEO Watch Next Media, adds: “This show is all about finding the extraordinary in the everyday. We’re thrilled to bring kids a world where anything can happen - and usually does! It is funny, fast and furious and full of existential threats related to seemingly ordinary objects, encouraging kids to see the world in a new light.”
