Born in Chicago, Illinois, Bonnie Hunt attended Notre Dame High for Girls where she dreamed of becoming an actress. Enrolling in acting classes at Chicago's Second City Improv Theatre led to joining their touring company. In 1984 she had an uncredited appearance in an episode of American Playhouse, followed in 1988 with her big screen debut as the waitress who dropped the toothpicks in Rain Man.
