Born in Rochester, New York, Charles Frank Mangione originally partnered with his brother, pianist Gap Mangione, as The Jazz Brothers. After releasing a few albums the brothers went their own ways. Known for his skills with the flugelhorn and trumpet, he released more than 30 albums during a career that included composing music for the closing ceremony of the 1980 Winter Olympics at Lake Placid.
Chuck Mangione died in his sleep at the age of 84.
