Cox is a retired American aircraft pilot, former flight instructor, former check pilot, former test pilot, former aircraft accident investigator, and active air safety expert who has flown over 14,000 hours, with over 10,000 hours in command of jet airliners. He has served as an aviation expert for programs such as Mayday (also known as Air Disasters in the United States and Air Crash Investigation in other parts of the world) and Why Planes Crash.
