Carice van Houten (born September 5, 1976) is an acclaimed Dutch actress best known internationally for her role as Melisandre in HBO's Game of Thrones. A multiple-time Golden Calf winner, she first gained recognition in the Netherlands with Suzy Q and Miss Minoes, and later achieved international prominence with Paul Verhoeven's Black Book. Her career spans Dutch and English-language films, including Valkyrie, Repo Men, and Brimstone. In addition to acting, she is a singer and an advocate for environmental causes. Carice has one son, Monte, and continues to be celebrated for her captivating screen presence and versatile performances.
