Born in Paris, France, Marion Cotillard was raised in the entertainment industry and made her acting debut as a child in one of her father's plays. She studied drama at the Conservatoire d'Art Dramatique in Orléans, and in 1993 she had her first English-language role in the television series Highlander. She made her cinema debut at the age of 18 in the 1994 film L'histoire du garçon qui voulait qu'on l'embrasse.
