Jorge R. Gutierrez is a Mexican-American Emmy Award-winning animator, writer, producer, director, painter, and voice actor. Born in 1975 in Mexico City and raised in Tijuana, Gutierrez has completed various films, cartoons, illustrations and paintings exploring his love of Mexican pop and folk culture. He attended the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), where he received his BFA (1997) & MFA (2000) in Experimental Animation. He and his wife Sandra Equihua created the multiple Emmy Award-winning animated television series El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera for Nickelodeon. In 2014 Gutierrez co-wrote and directed the Golden Globe nominated animated film The Book of Life produced by Guillermo del Toro for 20th Century Fox. He also wrote and co-directed the 2017 short animated film Son of Jaguar for Google, and created the 2021 animated mini-series Maya y los Tres (Maya and the Three) for Netflix Animation.
