Lieutenant General Mark Phillip Hertling is a national security, intelligence and terrorism analyst for CNN. He served for 37 years in the US Army, retiring as the Commanding General, US Army Europe and Seventh Army. In that final posting, he commanded over 60,000 Soldiers and cared for over 100,000 civilian workers and family members stationed throughout Europe, and he also engaged, trained with, and conducted exercises with 51 countries in Europe, and the nation of Israel.
