Born in Red Bank, New Jersey, Kevin Smith attended a semester of college, and four months at Vancouver Film School before returning to New Jersey and working at a Quick Stop convenience store. It was there that he wrote the 1994 movie Clerks, filmed it at the store after hours, and funded the project by selling his comic book collection and borrowing against his credit cards.
