Daffodil Altan

Investigative journalist Daffodil J. Altan is an Emmy-nominated producer and correspondent. Most recently, she produced, directed, and was the correspondent for the FRONTLINE documentaries, Kids Caught in the Crackdown(2019), and Trafficked in America (2018). She also produced the Emmy-nominated FRONTLINE/Univision documentary, Rape on the Night Shift (2015), which led to legislative reform in California, Oregon, and Washington. Previously she was a producer at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism's Investigative Reporting Program and a producer at Reveal from the Center for Investigative Reporting. She has produced and written for MSNBC, Telemundo, KQED, Reveal, the PBS NewsHour, Univision, The Los Angeles Times, Mother Jones, The Associated Press, and the OC Weekly, where she was a staff writer. She has received awards for her work from Investigative Reporters and Editors, Inc., the Society of Professional Journalists, The Third Coast Audio Festival, The San Francisco International Film Festival, the Los Angeles Press Club and the Imagen Foundation. She is a four-time national Emmy nominee and was a 2019 finalist for the Goldsmith Prize in Investigative Reporting. She has received grants for her work from the MacArthur Foundation, the International Documentary Association, Latino Public Broadcasting, and the Fund for Investigative Journalism. She has a master's degree from the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, where she is also a lecturer.
