Born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Geno Segers played football while attending WCU, which eventually led to him playing for the American National Rugby League, later moving to New Zealand where he played for Richmond Rovers Rugby League team. He auditioned for voice ads at a New Zealand radio station where his rich bass tone caught the attention of an agent, leading to the role of Mufasa in the Australian production of The Lion King. He went on to star in the American and Chinese productions as well.
