Stephanie Hegarty

Stephanie Hegarty is a journalist, writer, and broadcaster working on digital platforms, radio, and TV. Since 2018, she's been the BBC's first Population Correspondent analysing demographic change across the world and how it is altering the way people live. She worked three years in Nigeria for the BBC, covering the rise of Africa's cultural and economic powerhouse and its many challenges, from the damage caused by oil spills to Boko Haram's insurgency. In 2017, she won the Foreign Press Association Award for Best Print and Web News Story of the Year for a story she co-wrote on the kidnapping (and release of some) of the Chibok girls. She is now based in London.
