Phil Hopkins

Professor Phil F. Hopkins is a world-leading computational astrophysicists and expert on dark matter simulations, and has developed one of the standard supercomputer simulation codes, GIZMO. 
He has a very strong and active research interest relating to galaxy formation simulations within the dark matter paradigm.

Already collaborating closely with the Centre's Associate Professor Alan Duffy, Professor Hopkins will work within the Centre's Theory program, using his galaxy formation simulations to explore various dark matter models.

A highly-regarded supervisor of undergraduate and postgraduate students, he will assist with the mentoring and research of the Centre's PhD students as an advisory supervisor. He is very actively involved in outreach, particularly at the high school level, and his expertise in producing visualisation animations will be of particular value to the Centre's activities in this area.
