Jon spent much of his youth attending peace rallies, protests, and political rallies in opposition to the Marcos dictatorship of the Philippines. As well, he witnessed the formation of the community theatre organziation Carlos Bulosan Cultural Workshop co-founded by his father; it was this first exposure to theatre, which led to his passion for the arts and the pursuit of a career as a theatre performer and practitioner.
After completing his BFA in acting and play writing from Concordia University in Montreal, Jon returned to Toronto and steadily worked in both theatre and television. Chief among his achievements is his time at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, Canada. While at the Festival, jon completed two years of intensive classical theatre training at the Birmingham Conservatory under the mentorship and direction of Canada's most revered stage actors, Martha Henry.
