Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Drake Hogestyn attended the University of South Florida on a baseball scholarship and started his adult life as a professional baseball player, until an injury forced a change. He submitted a headshot in a nationwide talent search and in 1982 he landed a regular role in the TV series Seven Brides for Seven Brothers as Brian McFadden. In 1986 he landed the role of John Black, and during his three decades and nearly 4300 episodes on Days of Our Lives he went through a number of identities.
