Born in Limerick, Ireland, Richard Harris was an aspiring rugby player, but weakened lungs due to contracting tuberculosis made him change his focus to his other love, the theatre. He studied classical acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and made his stage debut in The Quare Fellow in 1957. The following year, in 1958 he appeared on the small screen in episodes of ITV Play of the Week, ITV Television Playhouse, and also in The DuPont Show of the Month, as well as a minor role in the film Alive and Kicking.
Richard Harris died from Hodgkin's lymphoma, age 72.
