C.J. falls in love with Robert Tyler, an old school chum who is now a television anchorman, and Houston thinks that Tyler is either going to get killed for acting as a go-between in a kidnapping, or that he's in cahoots with the kidnappers, in the ABC Television Network's “Matt Houston, airing Friday, October 12, 1984.
In "Eyewitness," it soon becomes apparent to Matt and Uncle Roy that CJ is falling for Robert, who reentered Matt's and C.J.'s lives when he took a job with a Los Angeles television station barely six weeks before. While Tyler is covering a party at the Daniels' estate, Mrs. Barbara Daniels is kidnapped by ‘clowns’ delivering a birthday cake. The kidnappers then call Tyler with ransom instructions while he is on the air. Robert secretly arranges for a news crew to cover the meeting with the kidnappers. Too much is happening too quickly to suit Houston, but it takes Lt. Hoyt to voice his suspicions of Tyler. Then, Houston discovers that Robert was the key newsman in reporting another kidnapping some ten years before, and the more Matt finds out, the more he places his life in jeopardy.
