DIAMOND S.O.S.
An attractive blonde girl named Carol is passing herself off as wealthy celebrities, going to jewellers’ shops, picking out batches of top-quality gems, and then having them sent to her hotel on the pretext of making a final choice. As soon as she leaves the shop, two phoney detectives go in, warn the jeweller she’s a crook, and ask him to co-operate in catching her. He agrees. They stage a fake arrest at the hotel, and then take the jewels as evidence – and disappear with the girl.
Details of this ingenious confidence trick come to the ears of Paul Duval, of Interpol, who goes to the airport in Paris to arrest the girl, whose latest trick has been to impersonate a Princess. With him is Inspector Grimond, of the French police. Only this time, Duval is in for a surprise. The girl turns out to be the real Princess – and Duval is furious with himself for making such a mistake.
He visits an organisation which is concerned with notifying details and movements of all celebrities. There, he finds that a Miss E. Prentice has requested particulars of the four celebrities so far impersonated by the mysterious blonde girl. Her latest request has come from a hotel in Rome, so Duval at once sets off to investigate.
The girl eludes him – but leaves behind her expensive clothes at the hotel. Realising that she will have to replace the clothes, Duval arranges for all dress houses in Rome to keep a look out for a girl answering to the mysterious Carol’s description. With the help of an Interpol girl named Helene, Duval tracks down the girl as she is ordering new clothes at a big dress designer’s establishment.
Keeping a watch on the girl’s movements, Duval is able to arrest her as she attempts to steal jewels by her usual method – this time under her real name of Carol Millaise.
