After an outrageous confession, William Hansteen is brought to trial. Aksel hopes that the truth will come to light and that he will finally be washed clean of the old suspicion. He receives support from prosecutor Amina Sahir, who pursues every track that relieves Aksel. Eva Haansteen is every means to protect her husband William from imprisonment. She begins an affair with the policeman Finn Kristoffersen, who is to make incriminating evidence disappear. When another girl dies, the investigation again focuses on the Nilsen family: Aksel's brother Erik is arrested.
