Among the appeals featured tonight is a crime that took place in Frinton-on-Sea on Thursday 27 August. A Post Office van was making a routine delivery when the guards were attacked by armed robbers. Police believe four men were involved and are anxious to trace a white Sierra Sapphire and a black J-reg Alfa Romeo. Both cars followed the van until it was abandoned in a nightclub car park about seven miles away. Crimewatch UK will be showing two artists' impressions of the hijackers and reconstructing events in the hope that a viewer might remember where the cars went next.

Tonight: the raid by two armed men on the Poole Unigate dairy in Dorset, on Grand National day, Saturday 3 April. They made their getaway with the dairy's takings in a stolen Sierra Cosworth, injuring two police officers who tried to intercept them. Tonight: the murder of 42-year-old Londoner Bulic Forsythe who was last seen leaving his office at Lambeth Council on the evening of Wednesday 24 February. The next day he failed to turn up for work. Then in the early hours of Friday, witnesses heard shouts and footsteps running away from the block where he lived. Soon after, fire was discovered spreading through his flat and his battered body was found in the bedroom. Crimewatch UK has artists' impressions of two men seen with him.

Back after a summer break, the first programme reports on a 67-year-old woman and her 64-year-old husband who were found dead at their farmhouse home near Llanharry, Mid-Glamorgan in July. Both had been killed by a single shot to the head. Crimewatch reconstructs the couple's last day and asks what could be the possible motive for the murder of this quiet couple.
Also this month, a young woman gives her account of the rape which nearly led to her death. She was attacked by a man as she walked home from a riding stables on a July afternoon in Darlington, County Durham. Police are linking the attack with another incident in which a woman reported being spied on as she changed after a game of squash. And there's a security video from a raid on a Halifax jewellers, where the armed robbers got away on a 1,000cc motorbike.

On 30 July, the body of a man in his late 30s was found on a waste tip in Surrey. He had been stabbed three times. His clothes, wallet and rings had been removed but his tattoos helped police identify him. He was 37-year-old George Leitch from south London, who had been reported missing by his family four weeks earlier. Tonight's programme reconstructs the events surrounding his disappearance and murder in the hope that new information will emerge.
Police also need to catch a rapist who attacked and robbed a woman in London on 16 August; and they are also seeking the gang leader in an armed robbery at a Hull factory in late July.

Just before 6am on 27 September an anonymous call was made to the emergency services. It led police to the Park Tavern in Brentford, west London. There they found the body of publican Trevor Thomas, asphyxiated. Burglars had bound and gagged him and then robbed the pub of the week's takings. But someone saw that 999 call being made. It was recorded and Crimewatch UK will be playing the tape, asking whether anybody can recognise the voice and the description of the caller.
Tonight there's also a detailed look at the Metropolitan Police's investigation into the rape of a woman in April this year. Detectives are convinced it is linked to an unsolved case from 1991, and reveal for the first time tonight a psychological profile of the attacker.

In Kent a family were held hostage throughout the night after robbers forced their way in at gunpoint. The two men, one posing as a postman, guarded them for 12 hours before taking the father, a jeweller, to his shop. He was forced to hand over the contents of the safe. This month viewers are asked to help identify the person who killed pensioner Shirley Leach on Thursday 6 January this year. Shirley was on her way home after visiting her daughter in hospital when she was attacked. She'd caught the bus to Bury Interchange and was waiting for her connection at about 9:20pm when she visited the ladies toilet. Her body was found a few hours later. A man wearing a flat cap, around 40-50 years old was seen near the toilets several times that evening.

When Crimewatch first started in 1984 only three programmes were planned. But tonight it celebrates its 100th edition. Originally the police were sceptical about the idea but, as Superintendant David Hatcher explains, "the programme quickly gained credibility among the police service to a degree no other programme had done".
Producer Liz Mills adds that now the police often come to the programme with their biggest cases: "But the big cases create the most tension. Often vital facts are not given to us until the last minute". Among the most famous cases the programme has publicised are the James Bulger murder and the Stephanie Slater kidnap.
In this month's programme Sue Cook and Nick Ross present some more real cases that they hope the public can help solve. They include a robbery at a jewellers in Harrogate on 28 March, and the murder of a 56-year-old man who was found in East London on 26 February.

The body of prostitute Tracy Turner was dumped in a country lane in Lutterworth, Leicestershire in the early hours of Thursday 3 March. Police are anxious to talk to anyone who saw her alive around midnight at the Hilton Park Service Station on the M6, where she regularly picked up clients. Officers will also be appealing for help in solving the murder of 53-year-old Trevor Bradley, whose body was found 40 miles from his Ludlow home.

In the early hours of Sunday 29 May, a young woman was abducted in Covent Garden by six men who all had strong cockney accents and skinhead haircuts. During her ordeal she was tortured and raped. Shortly afterwards the victim, who is an epileptic believes she went into seizure because she can remember nothing of the route she was driven or of being dumped in a street in Putney.

On 15 April this year, the day he died, he had been seen several times, shopping and having lunch at the local church. He was last seen alive at 6 o'clock watering his garden. The police want to hear from anyone who can add any more details to the case. In particular they are anxious to trace the young man with long blonde hair who was spotted close to Ron's house earlier that day.

This month, help is needed to solve the mystery surrounding the murder of Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator Janet Brown. On 10 April she went to work in Oxford and returned home as usual. A friend telephoned her around 8.00pm and she was fine, but her body was found the next morning. Help is needed to identify several cars seen in the area at the time she died.
And police are also hoping to identify a man caught on camera selling stolen jewellery.

Crimewatch reveals exclusive developments in the murder of John 'Goldfinger' Palmer, shot in his garden in Essex in what police believe was a professional hit. Palmer was killed in June with police initiallybelieving he'd died of a cardiac arrest, not realising he'd been shot until nearly a week later.
The 65-year-old was jailed for eight years in 2001 for masterminding a timeshare fraud targeting people across the UK. Palmer's wealth was once estimated at £300m. He owned helicopters, a French chateau and a £1m mansion in Bath, and was once considered one of the biggest landowners on Tenerife.
