At the end of November, 18-year-old John Threlfall was murdered at his home in Lancashire. Police want to trace the strangers asking directions to the house on the day he died. Hertfordshire police want to find the man who raped a young woman, then forced her to drive him to Epping Forest, where she crashed her car to escape. Plus the hunt for raiders who fired indiscriminately in the centre of London after robbing a security van.

The case of Alexander Drummond from near St Andrews in Scotland still puzzles police seven months after his death. Who were the two men seen running towards the farm track where his body was later found?

And in Bristol a gang of builders could be responsible for a series of armed robberies between August and December of last year. Twice they broke in overnight through the roof and overpowered building society staff as they arrived for work.

Last month Stefan Kiszko was released from prison after serving a sentence for a murder he did not commit.

Lesley Molseed was 11 years old when she went missing on Sunday 5 October 1975. Three days later she was found stabbed to death. West Yorkshire police are now determined to find Lesley's true killer.

And witnesses are sought for a case in Guildford where on Saturday 7 December last year a ruthless gang of robbers abducted a jewellery-shop manager as he walked to his car after work.

Three months ago, 14-year-old Tracy Meade went missing from her home in west London. Two weeks later her body was found in the Grand Union Canal. She had been murdered. Hours earlier she had been seen in Shepherd's Bush - police hope someone may have seen who she was with.

There's also a report on a chase through London's Covent Garden, which led to the fatal stabbing of Detective Constable Jim Morrison last December, after he discovered a thief rifling through a woman's handbag.

Dinah McNicol, 18 years old, was last seen at a rock festival in Hampshire on Sunday 4 August. Police fear she has been abducted and may be dead.

And police are puzzled by the mysterious death of financial director John Shippey, whose body was found five months ago in his car near Redhill, Surrey. Perhaps somebody saw something on the night of Wednesday 18 December.

Jackie Palmer-Radford, a 40-year-old divorcee, was murdered two months ago. Several people were spotted near her house on the day she died, but who were they, and was the killer among them?

Lancashire police need help to identify three men who robbed a jeweller's shop in Nelson. The manager was attacked as he tried to fend off the raiders.

A Southern Electricity van was hi-jacked, the driver abducted and driven around in the boot of a car for three hours.

In Cheshire a bank manager's wife was held to ransom in the boot of a car for several hours. Her husband delivered the money after instructions were placed on his car windscreen. Did you see someone put them there? Did you see the man who followed him in a blue Ford Orion?

And three months ago Katie Rackcliff was stabbed to death in the early morning. Did anyone see the loner watching her in the nightclub, hours before she died?

On Saturday 1 August, guests at a wedding reception found the body of 15-year-old schoolgirl Helen Gorrie. She had been strangled. The previous evening a witness thought she saw Helen talking to two men. Will you recognise the videofit of one of them? Did you see anything unusual that night along the old A3 in Horndean?

In Milton Keynes, a number of attacks, including two rapes, have taken place this year. Nearly all the incidents took place around the Fishermead Estate and police believe one man is responsible. Have you have seen anything suspicious?

Two months ago a botanist discovered the body of a prostitute, stabbed to death, in dense undergrowth in north Yorkshire. A witness remembers seeing someone like her talking to a man shortly before her death. Who is he?

In Lambourn a security guard was shot as he made a delivery. A reconstruction of the event - with impressions of the gang's faces - and the guard's own story may jog memories.

Among the appeals featured tonight is a crime that took place in Frinton-on-Sea on Thursday 27 August. A Post Office van was making a routine delivery when the guards were attacked by armed robbers. Police believe four men were involved and are anxious to trace a white Sierra Sapphire and a black J-reg Alfa Romeo. Both cars followed the van until it was abandoned in a nightclub car park about seven miles away. Crimewatch UK will be showing two artists' impressions of the hijackers and reconstructing events in the hope that a viewer might remember where the cars went next.

Among tonight's appeals is the mysterious disappearance of a man from Newcastle upon Tyne. Michael Straughan was last seen outside a pub on the evening of 19 June. The following morning his car was found, but there has been no trace of him since. Also, an appeal for help in identifying three armed men who robbed a bank in Bolton on 23 October.

Tonight: a reconstruction of an attack on a woman in Ludlow, Shropshire. Following midnight mass on Christmas Eve, churchwarden Muriel was raped in the grounds of Dinham House, close to Ludlow Castle, as she walked home. Plus an appeal to find a gang of robbers who fired at security guards in Doncaster.

Tonight: the murder of Arthur Brumhill, a 76-year-old pet shop worker, in Northampton. Also, an armed robbery on a sub-post office near Reading.

Tonight: an attack by an armed gang on a couple in Cowdenbeath, Fife, one night last December. Among the clues that the police hope will jog someone's memory are the northern English accents of the robbers and the white transit van and red Ford Escort they used.

Crimewatch UK also reconstructs the murder of Doris Shelley two months ago. She lived alone in a 17th-century mill house in Suffolk and a man had been seen on two occasions hiding in her garden.

Tonight: the raid by two armed men on the Poole Unigate dairy in Dorset, on Grand National day, Saturday 3 April. They made their getaway with the dairy's takings in a stolen Sierra Cosworth, injuring two police officers who tried to intercept them. Crimewatch UK appeals for anyone who can put a name to the videofit face of one of the thieves, and asks for help in finding out where the stolen black Sierra Cosworth was stored in the weeks prior to the raid and who supplied its false number plates.

Tonight: the murder of 42-year-old Londoner Bulic Forsythe who was last seen leaving his office at Lambeth Council on the evening of Wednesday 24 February. The next day he failed to turn up for work. Then in the early hours of Friday, witnesses heard shouts and footsteps running away from the block where he lived. Soon after, fire was discovered spreading through his flat and his battered body was found in the bedroom. Crimewatch UK has artists' impressions of two men seen with him.

Back after a summer break, the first programme reports on a 67-year-old woman and her 64-year-old husband who were found dead at their farmhouse home near Llanharry, Mid-Glamorgan in July. Both had been killed by a single shot to the head. Crimewatch reconstructs the couple's last day and asks what could be the possible motive for the murder of this quiet couple.

Also this month, a young woman gives her account of the rape which nearly led to her death. She was attacked by a man as she walked home from a riding stables on a July afternoon in Darlington, County Durham. Police are linking the attack with another incident in which a woman reported being spied on as she changed after a game of squash. And there's a security video from a raid on a Halifax jewellers, where the armed robbers got away on a 1,000cc motorbike.

On 30 July, the body of a man in his late 30s was found on a waste tip in Surrey. He had been stabbed three times. His clothes, wallet and rings had been removed but his tattoos helped police identify him. He was 37-year-old George Leitch from south London, who had been reported missing by his family four weeks earlier. Tonight's programme reconstructs the events surrounding his disappearance and murder in the hope that new information will emerge.

Police also need to catch a rapist who attacked and robbed a woman in London on 16 August; and they are also seeking the gang leader in an armed robbery at a Hull factory in late July.

Just before 6am on 27 September an anonymous call was made to the emergency services. It led police to the Park Tavern in Brentford, west London. There they found the body of publican Trevor Thomas, asphyxiated. Burglars had bound and gagged him and then robbed the pub of the week's takings. But someone saw that 999 call being made. It was recorded and Crimewatch UK will be playing the tape, asking whether anybody can recognise the voice and the description of the caller.

Tonight there's also a detailed look at the Metropolitan Police's investigation into the rape of a woman in April this year. Detectives are convinced it is linked to an unsolved case from 1991, and reveal for the first time tonight a psychological profile of the attacker.

Why would anyone want to kill family man John Reynolds? He lived in Rushden, Northamptonshire, and was gunned down early in the morning on Monday 18 October as he walked his dog in a quiet country lane. His death is still a mystery, but perhaps you hold the vital clue to his killing. Police urgently need to trace the motorcyclist seen at the scene moments after the murder. Maybe you've seen the distinctive motorcycle before, or can recognise the man who rode it?

In Shropshire, two security guards were attacked and subjected to a terrifying ordeal as they tried to make a delivery on 21 September. Police need your help to identify four men they believe were involved in the raid. Locals recall seeing strangers in the town about a month before the attack, and Crimewatch has impressions of their faces and descriptions of their getaway cars in the hope you might remember something.

A gang robbed a jeweller's shop in Rugby town centre on Friday 22 October. Crimewatch UK has descriptions of the men, who stabbed several people as they made their getaway. Can you help find them?

In Ipswich a month before Christmas a young mother was murdered. Karen Hales was at home with her 18-month-old baby when something or someone disturbed her. Two boys walking near the house saw smoke and a man wearing distinctive clothing. Maybe you'll recognise him.

Your help is needed to find an armed gang who robbed a post office van in Burnley, Lancashire, and then shot a policeman in the leg. The villains drove off and hijacked two cars, forcing the occupants out at gunpoint, before finally escaping in a Ford XR3i.

A young woman was murdered in Ipswich a month before Christmas. Karen Hales was at home with her 18-month-old baby when something or someone disturbed her. Two boys walking near her home saw smoke, and locals saw a man running quickly across the road. Maybe you recognise him?

In Kent a family were held hostage throughout the night after robbers forced their way in at gunpoint. The two men, one posing as a postman, guarded them for 12 hours before taking the father, a jeweller, to his shop. He was forced to hand over the contents of the safe. As one of the robbers escaped he was seen by a local man. Can you help catch them?

This month viewers are asked to help identify the person who killed pensioner Shirley Leach on Thursday 6 January this year. Shirley was on her way home after visiting her daughter in hospital when she was attacked. She'd caught the bus to Bury Interchange and was waiting for her connection at about 9:20pm when she visited the ladies toilet. Her body was found a few hours later. A man wearing a flat cap, around 40-50 years old was seen near the toilets several times that evening.

When Crimewatch first started in 1984 only three programmes were planned. But tonight it celebrates its 100th edition. Originally the police were sceptical about the idea but, as Superintendant David Hatcher explains, "the programme quickly gained credibility among the police service to a degree no other programme had done".

Producer Liz Mills adds that now the police often come to the programme with their biggest cases: "But the big cases create the most tension. Often vital facts are not given to us until the last minute". Among the most famous cases the programme has publicised are the James Bulger murder and the Stephanie Slater kidnap.

In this month's programme Sue Cook and Nick Ross present some more real cases that they hope the public can help solve. They include a robbery at a jewellers in Harrogate on 28 March, and the murder of a 56-year-old man who was found in East London on 26 February.

This month viewers are asked for their help in solving two brutal murders. The body of prostitute Tracy Turner was dumped in a country lane in Lutterworth, Leicestershire in the early hours of Thursday 3 March. Police are anxious to talk to anyone who saw her alive around midnight at the Hilton Park Service Station on the M6, where she regularly picked up clients. Officers will also be appealing for help in solving the murder of 53-year-old Trevor Bradley, whose body was found 40 miles from his Ludlow home.

Featured tonight is a reconstruction of an attack by a gang of armed robbers on staff at a jewellers in Stratford-upon-Avon. A police officer on routine patrol tried to foil their escape but they made their getaway in a stolen car.

This month on the programme, viewers are asked to help west London Police solve a terrible rape. In the early hours of Sunday 29 May, a young woman was abducted in Covent Garden by six men who all had strong cockney accents and skinhead haircuts. During her ordeal she was tortured and raped. Shortly afterwards the victim, who is an epileptic believes she went into seizure because she can remember nothing of the route she was driven or of being dumped in a street in Putney.

This month help is needed to find whoever killed businessman Ken Brown, who was shot on his doorstep in the north east of England on the evening of Thursday 25 August, and the killer of 38-year-old Julie Pacey from Grantham, whose body was found by her daughter when she came home from school on Monday 26 September.

Tonight, the programme examines a baffling murder case: pensioner Ron Cousins had lived in the same Chelmsford house since he was born and was well known by everyone in the area. On 15 April this year, the day he died, he had been seen several times, shopping and having lunch at the local church. He was last seen alive at 6 o'clock watering his garden. The police want to hear from anyone who can add any more details to the case. In particular they are anxious to trace the young man with long blonde hair who was spotted close to Ron's house earlier that day.

This month help is needed to find whoever killed family man Atek Hussain, who was murdered outside his home in East Ham, London. Also, police in Bath are trying to identify the man who raped a woman on 14 November as she was parking her car.

This month help is needed in the investigation into an armed gang who robbed a cash van near the A23 in West Sussex. Also, there's an artist's impression of a man police want to talk to about a sexual assault on a teenager near the M56 in Cheshire.

This month help is needed by Greater Manchester Police to solve a series of armed robberies that have all taken place within the same area.

Tonight Humberside police request information about an art theft last February.

On 5 August, 1994, 23-year-old Julie Finley disappeared from the Liverpool city centre. Her body was found the following day in Rainford, St. Helens. Who was the man she was seen running toward near Pembroke Place hours before she was killed?
 

This month, help is needed to solve the mystery surrounding the murder of Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator Janet Brown. On 10 April she went to work in Oxford and returned home as usual. A friend telephoned her around 8.00pm and she was fine, but her body was found the next morning. Help is needed to identify several cars seen in the area at the time she died.

And police are also hoping to identify a man caught on camera selling stolen jewellery.

Police are asking for help in solving two murders. Simon Shannon, a 26-year-old vicar's son from Essex was last seen alive on 3 May. Police in Manchester are also looking for any information about the murder of 18-year-old Natalie McLean who was killed over the Easter weekend.

This month, help is needed to solve the murder of Robert Higgins, who lived near Edinburgh. He was brutally attacked and left for dead in a copse near his home. Plus, the search for a gang who stole several million pounds.

This month, the search is on for the killer of Wigan schoolgirl Louise Sellars, who was found strangled. Plus, information is urgently needed on the murder of 13-year-old Darren Fawns in Antrim, Northern Ireland.

The monthly programme which asks members of the public to help the police solve crime. Included tonight are requests to find the killer of a 64-year-old man and the attackers of a retired school teacher.

Crimewatch reveals exclusive developments in the murder of John 'Goldfinger' Palmer, shot in his garden in Essex in what police believe was a professional hit. Palmer was killed in June with police initiallybelieving he'd died of a cardiac arrest, not realising he'd been shot until nearly a week later.

The 65-year-old was jailed for eight years in 2001 for masterminding a timeshare fraud targeting people across the UK. Palmer's wealth was once estimated at £300m. He owned helicopters, a French chateau and a £1m mansion in Bath, and was once considered one of the biggest landowners on Tenerife.
