So, when Brent Leroy starts renting videos at his corner gas station and a big city girl from Toronto moves in to run the coffee shop next door it's either a sign of the apocalypse or a chance for Dog River to finally have a decent cup of coffee.

When a tax man comes to audit the Corner Gas business records, Brent's dad Oscar and friend Hank immediately plot revenge by devising a fool-proof plan to humiliate the auditor. Unfortunately for Hank and Oscar, Emma's excellent record-keeping throws the whole clockwork operation into chaos and Hank learns you shouldn't carry out a humiliation plan after you've been drinking. Meanwhile, Lacey's big city approach to selling coffee doesn't fly with the locals.

Lacey offers free Pilates classes to the people of Dog River but the town is strangely hostile to the idea. Then Brent and Hank's fashion worlds collide; Dog River's not big enough for two sharp-dressed men, so Hank comes up with a way of making sure they never steal each other's fashion thunder again. Meanwhile, Brent's dad Oscar takes steps to avoid being buried in a cheap looking coffin.

In an effort to impress Lacey, Brent agrees to babysit Wanda's troubled six-year-old, Tanner, and the town takes an unusual interest in the outcome. Brent uses his time with Tanner to develop his nurturing side but the results are painful, mostly for Brent. Eventually Lacey does come to Brent's rescue but not for the reasons Brent thinks. Meanwhile Oscar does his best not to destroy the gas station in Brent's absence and Hank tries to deal with his own disturbing memory of babysitting Wanda's kid.

A poorly spray-painted "Grad 68" on the Dog River water tower has been an eyesore for years. But when rookie cop Karen makes it her mission to crack the graffiti cold case, she finds many of the locals united in a mysterious conspiracy of silence. Meanwhile, Brent throws Dog River into chaos when he tries to end the confusion over the gas station's new bathroom signs. And when Lacey's column is rejected by the town newspaper, she becomes desperate to be published, especially after hearing the paper usually takes anyone.

Realizing that other prairie towns have attracted tourists by erecting giant statues of eggs, moose and magpies, Dog River decides it should put up its own big tourist magnet. The question is what. Finally the mayor's grandmother comes up with the perfect landmark. The only problem is the name of the landmark has an unfortunate double meaning. But who can argue with the mayor's grandmother? Meanwhile, Brent's dad Oscar gets help from some head cheese to stop a love-struck admirer from ruining his marriage.

Davis gets a serious case of cell phone envy when he sees that Brent has a smaller one than he does. Soon, the two attempt to outdo one another by buying a smaller one than the other one has, then a smaller one, then a smaller one, and so on. Meanwhile, Oscar becomes addicted to the thrill of winning little stuffed animals on the new claw game in the bar and soon decides to seek help for it.

Upset to hear a comedian who once visited Dog River repeat a joke he told him when he was there, Brent plans to have the last laugh when he learns that the comedian is returning to Dog River to do a show. Hank wants to do a set for comedy night as well, but can't think of any material. Meanwhile, the ladies start a book club, which Brent makes into a movie club when he joins.

Karen and Hank go on a fishing trip together and she learns that he's a different person when he fishes. Brent and Lacey engage each other in a battle of wits with the help of the new roadside sign. Oscar tries to prove that his memory is as good as it ever was, prompting Brent and the whole town to have a little fun at his expense.

The Dog River hockey team, The River Dogs, find out that their goalie, Brent feels unappreciated and is considering playing for a rival team, The Stonewood Saints. With no coach either, Lacey steps up and helps The River Dogs to play one of their best games ever. They tie! Emma pressures Oscar to get rid of his clunker of a car, but Oscar insists that the car's fine and the only clunker around is Emma.

Everyone is excited when they all take a trip to the Grey Cup in Regina, but since they all have to go with only one other person rather than as a group, problems arise. Emma is accused of stealing while at a dollar store with Wanda. Oscar with Hank, finds that a friend of his, who owed him money has passed on. Davis and Karen lose their tickets, so Davis tries to buy from a scalper only to find out that she's actually an undercover police officer posing as a prostitute and he gets himself arrested. And finally, Brent and Lacey run out of gas in the middle of nowhere, despite the fact that Brent owns a gas station.

Karen is left to take care of the trophy for the Bon Spiel, the Clavet Cup; this turns out to be a more difficult task than she thought it would be.

Mayor Fitzy's plan to promote Dog River seems to be working, as an American tourist shows up by accident. Hank is made the goodwill ambassador to Bill, the tourist, but feels that he's nothing more than a typical ignorant American. Meanwhile, Wes' liquor store becomes the new hip place to be as the brand new ATM machine he has put in, seems to be attracting crowds.

Having Lacey as a dinner guest turns out to be a bad idea when she bumps Oscar and Emma up into a new wine bracket. Davis gets new shoes on Karen's insistence, which leads to a world of pain for both him and the residents of Dog River. And Hank wins the lottery.

Thankfully with the help of the Snowbirds, Lacey almost manages to make things right. Meanwhile, business at Brent's gas station hits an unexpected snag while Hank's new corn stand scheme exceeds all expectations. And after a rash of vandalism, Karen and Davis take to the streets on bikes to do some face-to-face community policing. But Karen is oddly reluctant.

With a little help from Oscar, a friendly slow-pitch game in the local beer league gets a lot less friendly. Armed with an array of secret pitches, Brent is ready to lob his team to victory. But the team could be disqualified if 10th member Lacey doesn't make it to the diamond in time. Meanwhile Davis and Karen are only too happy to turn a blind eye to drinking on the team's bench, but they have a harder time ignoring an act of vandalism.

When Karen and Wanda continue to leave Lacey in the dust, she gets Brent and Davis to join as well, only they have their own idea of how to keep up. Hank becomes the new crossing guard.

Meanwhile, Lacey is frustrated at having to constantly re-do Emma's nails.

Lacey, in an effort to prove she's not spinning her wheels, takes Oscar on as the defending horseshoe champ and Wanda has gives Davis a hand with his taxes trying to prove to him that tax time is actually fun time.

Meanwhile at Corner Gas, Brent and Oscar disagree over buying a new air-pump or just fixing the old one. And after Lacey breaks her arm everyone is willing to sign her cast except Karen, whose reason is peculiar.

Emma takes up sewing and immediately realizes that she needs a quiet place, away from Oscar, where she can sew in peace. She decides to turn Brent's old room into a sewing haven, and Hank helps by taking Brent's old toys out of the way. When Brent finds out, jealousy rears its ugly head. Oscar doesn't like the fact that Emma has him on an allowance and decides to make money on his own by selling cookies. Karen strikes an uneasy bargain with Oscar as his partner, but she has ulterior motives. Davis learns what it's like to be discriminated against when he tries to order food from the Kids' Menu at The Ruby, while Wanda tries to ingratiate herself to both Corner Gas customers and the townsfolk of Dog River by being more 'down home.'

After neglecting to buy Emma a Mother's Day present, Brent finds himself trying to get back into her good books by crushing Hank's efforts to be a better son than him. This is nothing but good news to Oscar who realizes that he can now get away with pretty much anything. Over at the Ruby Lacey and Davis try to see who can embarrass the other more by bringing up each other's inabilities. Meanwhile Karen and Wanda buy a hutch from a Swedish super store and have some problems putting it together.

When Oscar must find a way to pay for Emma's damaged bushes he takes the census-taker job. The problem is, he's partnered with Hank, who would prefer to work alone. Meanwhile, Wanda and Brent try to make extra cash by selling meal-replacement bars; and a misunderstanding leads Lacey to believe that two of Dog River's finest are involved in a scandalous affair.

When Davis buys a table hockey game for the police station Brent and Karen show down to see who is the ultimate champion. Hank, in seeing how Brent is preparing for the big game decides that maybe Karen is a better role model to follow. Meanwhile, Lacey, thinking Emma is quite deserving of the award, decides to nominate her as a Woman of Distinction.

When Karen thinks that she and Lacey are past the point of asking to borrow things, it's open season on each other's possessions. Oscar, Emma, and Wanda are aghast that Brent has never seen a horror movie so they set out to scare the crap out of him. To save time getting things from his truck, Hank starts to wear cargo pants that can hold everything he could ever need...ever.

Hank has an idea to increase tourism to Dog River which causes consequences nobody could have foreseen. Oscar also has an idea but is afraid to bring it forward for fear of being labeled a crazy old man. The new found popularity of Dog River causes a business boom at Corner Gas and the Ruby as well as Wanda getting a weekly guest spot on popular Canadian news program. Davis tries to work as Fitzy's personal body guard during the transition while Karen thinks loyal, honest police work is best.
